10-year old beginner bass guitar - What should I buy?

by Ed
(San Diego)

Folks,
my son (age 10-years) wants to start learing bass (his older brither plays drums). The teacher thinks he should buy regular size and not like kids size. Guitar should not be heavy and easy to play w/ the strings and neck (sorry, I'm just learing...). I would spend a bit more if it's worth but not more than $500. If there is something out for $200 with decent quality that would be good. Remeber, I can not change anything I have no clue I woudl need to bring it in the shop and pay somebody. He would also need th amp - so a "beginner set" would be an option. Thanks for your advice.
Cheers,
-- Ed
