Bass Guitar Pickups - EMG Series

With so many different bass guitar pickups to choose from, it is a wonder anyone ever actually gets around to choosing one to purchase. From quality brand name manufacturers alone, there are hundreds to choose from. Add small unknown name brands to the equation and it is near impossible to narrow the playing field. To get you started, here are a few suggestions for bass guitar pickups:

The EMG-35CS (ceramic and steel) model uses steel loaded parallel placed coils. As a result in higher inductance, they have a smooth attack and a flat high end. These pickups are traditional sounding and use a 35 extended housing which is 3.5 inches. They cost about $100.

The EMG-40TW Dual Mode pickups are both dual and single coil with each having its own output. It comes with a push/pull volume which will allow you to change from the clarity of a single coil to the sound of fatness of a dual coil. This product’s cost is about $120.

The EMG-40DC is made with parallel placed coils which are ceramic loaded. It maintains clarity while producing a deep low end. This model claims to be beefy, and have a lot more output than needed. This product uses a 40 extended housing which is 4 inches. Expect to pay around $100 for this product.

The EMG series are very popular on the market, but they are not the only ones available. There are many brands that will hold up to the standards you expect in a good product, you just have to find them.
