I started out on an inexpensive electric import 30 years ago. In my opinion it stunted my growth as a musician. I have been getting by on cheap guitars for many years. I have been through about 10 guitars and I will admit it did give me some needed repair skills, but that just takes away from playing time. You just can't get that playing time back. I now own the guitar I will die with. The Gibson Les Paul Standard is worth every penny. My 8 yr. old son will start on a great guitar and hopefully not need to go through a dozen guitars before finding the right one. He is already playing fiddle and drums and is going to be awesome. We clean and shine the Gibson every Sunday and he knows not to mess with dad's guitar. He also knows it will be his on the day he can play the solo in "Stairway To Heaven". DON'T BUY YOUR KIDS CHEAP GUITARS, THEY JUST SOUND CHEAP.

Take a look at the Jay Turser line of guitars. Try a few and see how they feel. They make a pretty decent guitar at a reasonable price. See what feels right to you. Chances are you'll know it when you feel it.
