AES 420 by Yamaha

AES 420 by Yamaha

Hi, i'm 17, and i've played the acoustic guitar for 6 years now, and i'm getting an electric one. I know next to nothing about electric guitars specifically, though i do have plenty of experience with acoustic. My question would be a recommendation for a guitar that would fit my needs. I don't play in a band ( yet ), my budget would be around 300$ (not including the amp). Actually, i've checked out a local store and one choice that seemed quite interresting was a Yamaha AES420. What do you know about this particular model ? Is it one I should be considering as a beginner ? Do you have any better suggestions ?

Thank you in advance and I love your site !
Sincerly, Julien

We live in times where most any guitar you buy off the shelf at a store is decent. Some really cheap ebay guitars suck but epiphones, deans, yamahas, fenders, squires, washburns, ibanez's, jacksons, schecters etc. are great for beginers. Guitars like fenders with single coil pickups get buzz when you play overdriven. Humbuckers eliminate that but it's harder to get that bluesy SRV type sound. The guitar you're looking is a good guitar. A bit of a fat neck, but neck thickness varies with guitar brands. Ibanez and Jacksons are thinner necks than say epiphones and such. It's solid. For sake of good looks, I'd recommend and Epiphone Les Paul Studio. Their's a few different colos to choose from, same features with an extra volume and tone knob for more versitility for tone, and to me anyway, they look better. Cheers.
