Canadian Dillions
by: Anonymous

Dillion guitars made for the Canadian market are fantastic. They can't be sold in the US as Gibson et al sues them for basically a reverse engineered model of there premium guitars. If the body shape is an exact replica of the guitar it/s a Canadian market piece.

The Canadian line of Dillion guitars are the best Dillions. They actually originated in Canada. I got my Dillion korina V from JSD Guitar Shack and its a killer guitar, plus the service from Kevin at JSD's was excellent! I'd recomend them!

I bought a Dillion Les paul Jr. some months back from JSD Guitar Shack and the thing is amazing!! I paid $350 total cost with delivery and it's one of the best axes I've ever owned, and I have owned many. I don't know of many guitars of this quality for that price and the customer service was excellent. I'll never part with it! Russ

I have the amber flamed top LP from Canada and I have to say the quality of the guitar for the price I paid is fantistic. The guitar is about 7.2 and I find the pickup extreemly bright, maybe alittle bit too bright. Don't believe that garbage coming out of the USA about Canadian Dillion.

Canadian Dillion LP
by: JIm Cedrez

Canadian market Dillion LP Godltop -$250 new.

Better build quality than an Epi! Decent wood, (African mahogany? good enough), and chambered.

However, like a lot of cheaper guitars, they chintzed on what you can't see. If you're handy, gut the electrics and replace it all with decent parts... Pots, caps, switch, pups, wires... Rebuild and customise.

You'll have a way better guitar than an Epi, and for less money.

Thinking of buying their lemon drop LP and red SG...

Highly recommended.

J.

Canadian Market Dillions are better in every way to the counter parts in the USA. Don't believe the USA crap on Ebay. That is just jealious distributers in the USA making up crap about Canadian market Dillions so people will buy Dillions in the states.

If you want one of the best bang for the Buck guitars. Dillon is the guitar. Go to Guitar Shack in Thornhill if you want one.

Dillion in Canada
by: Anonymous

I bought a guitar from Dillion in Canada and it was a piece of crap. I will never do that again.
When I told John Dillion about it in the USA he was nice enough to help me fix it and sold me a real Dillion at a discounted price and when it arrived my jaw droped. What a differance there is no comparison between the two.The sound and craftsmanship can not be beat.

Who you call if there is a problem or you need parts. They don't even come with a warantee card.Stay away form Chineese rip offs in canada.

Dillion Les Paul Deluxe
by: Anonymous

I recintly purchased a Dillion guitar from Tony at MUSICIANSMATE@AOL.COM In the usa and when the guitar arriver my mind was blown.
Here is a copy of the letter I sent to MR Dillion

Dear Mr.Dillion Jan 2010
My friend, your guitar kicks my Gibson Les Paul Gold Top to the curb, spits on it, and shoves it
down the street. What an awesome axe your guys produce. You can quote me. With 35 years as a professional guitarist and lead singer, back-up for KC & The Sunshine Band in 1976, and lots of other credits to my name (can you say Neil?),
Your craftsmen in Korea have it licked, stamped, and delivered it for $2K less. What a piece of work. My new favorite guitar after only one session. I am ordering another DL 6500 F as soon as I get back in the country as a back-up for my gigs.
Thanks! Hojo

Try one for yourself
by: Anonymous

I find it highly suspect that you would have 4 post for March 22, 2010 putting down Dillion Guitars from Canada and glorifing US Dillions. Sounds like one asshole trying to influence consumers with BS comments.

I have one of the older Canadian LP models (made in Korea) and love the guitar. Most comments stating better then the epi etc in my opinion is true. However both the Canadian and USA are now producing their lower models in China and the higher models in Korea or at least they were from what I remember. Either way, try the guitar out before buying and don't believe the crap on both sides of the border. I'm the owner of a Dillion LP and PRS from Canada and both guitars are made in Korea and are amazing quality for the price.

Dillion

John Dillion ISN'T his real name - it's an "assumed name". His real name is John Vinci.

The Dillion brand was started in Canada, and had a USA partner. The partnership dissolved in 2007, with both companies using the Dillion name in their respective countries. They are both legitimate companies, neither is a "fake".

dillion canada
by: Anonymous

Dillion guitars were founded in Canada. John Vinci who claims the rights to the company was just a US based dealer for Dillion guitars. He had sucess in selling Dillion in US and as his orders became larger teh owner of the brand in Canada alowed him to place orders direct with the factory and pay royalty to the Canadian company to avoid paying both Canadin and US duty charges.

John got greedy and decided he doesn't want to pay anything so he went and registered the name Dillion in US behind the other guys back. So basically he stole the brand from the rightfull owner in Canada.

Btw, Canadian Dillion guitars are now availabe from another Canadian on line dealer

Dillion; US or Canada (Korean) or Vietnamese
by: GypsyKen

I Love Dillion Guitars. I have a USA Gold Top LP w/P90s, a USA Cherry Burst Quilt Top, and Canadian "Tea" Burst Flame Top. They are all VERY well made. The I like the finish on the USA models a little better (gloss has more "depth"). The Canadian LP has a fat 58' neck profile, the Cherry Burst is a thin 60's profile, and the Gold Top is not as "club-like" as a '58 neck profile, but thicker than a '60's neck. I have never felt the need to upgrade the pickups. I bought them on ebay from separate sellers and all of the pickups are wax potted, so I assume that they came that way. I love their tone and I am too afraid to mess with it to change them. I also have a Dillion ES-335 copy (LOVE IT), a maple neck surf green Strat, a rosewood neck strat with left hand trem (got it for $90 in a box after some tried to relic it - had my tech spray a thin triburst nitro finish and - sorry Mr Dillion - put a Fender decal on it, I get all kinds of oohs and aahs from other guitardos). I have a Butterscotch '52 Tele copy (came with a beautiful birdseye maple neck and fretboard, stock), and a 6/12 double neck 1275 copy. It is a "V" series, made in Japan. It is only on par with the run of the mill Fender and Gibson instruments, so something of a diasappointment, but it plays well. Yes, I have vintage instruments, too. I just enjoy playing these MORE. The only modern stuff that I have played that is in the same league comes from the Custom Shops of Fender and Gibson and costs at least ten times as much if not more. I have not played any that I liked as much. If I did, I would have bought it!

USA Dillion Guitars
by: InTheKnow

These now come from Viet Nam, the company making them is Inyen Vina. John Vinci probably still orders them through KHL Corp., that's where you get the illusion that they're made in Korea. But they're not. Neither is Raven West. Same deal - Vietnamese crafted. I want to buy a Canadian Dillion but they may be in the same boat, not Korean. Harder to find out that info but I'm working on it.

Dillion guitars from the U.S. and Canada
by: Michael Sowers, proud Dillion performer

I have purchased Dillion guitars from John and Kevin. The guitars are fantantic. I have Gretsch, Gibson, and Fender guitars and I can tell you, without any hesitation, that the Dillions from Canada or the U.S. are every bit as good. I am not a rookie, but a seasoned professional guitar player with over 46 years professional playing experience. The guitars are well made and are set up very well. They sound good and are made with quality materials. There is absolutely no reason, absolutely none whats so ever to pay thousands of dollars for expensive guitars (unless you are a collector). I am a performer and want a good sounding, reliable guitar that if stolen, I haven't lost an heirloom. I have custom built instruments (two Kevin Brubaker 5 string basses) that are outsanding and are in the $7,000-$8,000 range, so I know quality. Dillion guitars are great quality whether they come from Kevin in Canada or John in the U.S. Both guys are stand-up guys and back their products. That has been my experience and I will buy from both again without question.

Spelling corrections
by: Michael Sowers

In my haste to comment about the Dillions, I see that I was a poor speller. My lack of ability to check my own spelling should not in anyway reflect the quality of the Dillions. I guess I was just excited about getting my second Dillion 12 string in the mail. I am planning on adding at least two more Dillions to the group. I will get the single P-90 Dillion (either the Les Paul Jr. model or the double cut away) and I am considering the Brian May copy or the Firebird copy. I would like to add the Mosrite copy and even like the idea of the Jazzmaster copy. I have played all of the above mentioned guitars and have not found any of them to be lacking. I would also like to add the 4001 Ric copy bass. I have owned Ric 4001s and find them to be a "one trick pony", but if you need that sound, you need the Ric. I am not sure the Dillion copy would sound exactly like the Ric, but I know the Ric pickups are available and a quick solder job would fix that. Again, my spelling was poor, but my praise of Dillion is unfaltering. Great guitars; not just for the money, but for any price.

Dillion Mosrite
by: Anonymous

I appreciate you comments to clarify the USA/Canada debate as far as quality and playability.

I have a Dillion Mosrite copy, it's Canadian, I think, blue metallic with black pickups and pick guard, that I got used for $300. As soon as people see it they say what a beautiful instrument it is. I have a 1980 Les Paul Custom an SG-9D from the Gibson custom shop, two PRS solidbodies- one solid mahogany and one maple, an Epiphone 6/12 string SG (which is one of the hottest guitars I own, but weighs a ton is is strictly a "rocker"), and an American Strat. So, I have some great guitars, but for now, I'm playing the Dillion. It has a unique sound with the soapbar pickups, very tight, as in precise, feel. If it left the factory set up the way I got it, it is the best playing guitar I ever bought, excluding the PRS's, which were also flawless. One of the best guitars I own for playability.

Great Guitars!
by: Anonymous

I recently e-mailed Mr Dillon about the possibility of giving our radio station one of his fine guitars to use in a contest! Not only did he answer my e-mail..he said he would give me a call as soon as he could! I have never owned a Dillon but after reading all the positive reviews and checking out the product and talking to people who actually own a USA made one, I'm convinced! My next guitar is gonna be a Dillon. Great quality at a price the average player can actually afford! Thank you Mr. Dillon! Keep up the great work! No I'm not an endorser, but if ever ask would gladly accept. Great craftsmanship
still is avaiable at a price you can afford!

Not according to his Website he doesn't. Pardon me while I run the B.S. flag up the flagpole.

No savvy businessperson would last long doing so. Nice try, John.

Dillion P90 SG holds it's own.
by: Anonymous

This is my second Canadian sourced Dillion ( white SG with trapezoid inlays and P90's. )
In stock form its a suprisingly good instrument but really comes to life with a few mods. In my case these have been, fret board scraped to remove factory buffing compounds and to level the inlays and rosewood(maybe) board. Edges have been rolled, fret ends have been profiled (think quarter of a ball bearing). Frets have been leveled , re-crowned and polished to a mirror finish. The bindings were then scraped between the fret ends and radiused with a diamond nail file. Entire board edges were then buffed using
leather. This stuff is copiously documented in the Mylespaul forums by luthier and all round whiz, Roman Rist. The nut has been replaced with a Tusq unit with slightly increased string spacing.
New tuners are Gotoh 3 on a strip white button Kluson repro's.
The original tuners were just O.K. Switch, pots .output jack and caps were replaced. CLR, DiMarzio, Switchcraft and orange drops. The P90's are the originals and perform very well with the other changes. They stay until I decide on suitable replacements.
Next up will be a Gotoh vintage Tune-a-matic with companion stop tailpiece. This will be significant if my earlier experiences of this changeover are borne out. It weighs in at just under 6 pounds and is extremely resonant acoustically. Have verified that it is mahogany and sounds like it. I've been playing for decades, was a card carrying Musician's Union member in the Ancient times. Moved on to other things, but still carried on playing acoustic mostly and have gotten back into playing with resurected pros, some who have stayed with it for the duration.
The Dillion is one of 14 guitars and holds its own very well with the mods as described. It usually gets run through a '61 Fender Pro w/ JBL D130F, Bugera V-22 (fingers crossed-sounds brilliant) and a Vox Pathfinder 15R with a Celestion 10" ( a worthwhile 3 hr mod.) Sounds good through an AC15 ,Fender Blues DeVille and our other guitarist's Hughes & Kettner 60 watt 2x12" combo. Sorry for the lengthy post but I tend to be excessively thorough. Leaves fewer questions in peoples minds. Hope this is helpful to some. This guitar is at a much higher level than the Epiphone SG's I've played so far.

Dillion- Responding to truth rocks..on Dillion
by: Captainronni

Look fellas..I'm not a kid (nearly 50 now)and "back in the day" had quite a few Rics set up through rte 66 guitars in Hollywood, so even though old school I still know a little bit about guitars and BS...
I bought a Dillion J160e copy. from a dealer in Arizona. First one arrived damaged in freight (at edge of binding). Second one similar situation (broke at pickup this time) then found out model was back ordered. I actually spoke with John (Vinci) Dillion (yes, his number was in NC as I checked,..I don't like BS either) HE actually offered to get me a "limitd edition version of it at a discounted price (sound fam) and a TKL case or to wait and he would upgrade the shipping to me. I opted for the limited edition which really is damn amazing in tone. (not as deep but sings more than my Masterbuilt or several that I played head to head at Sam Ash in OC where I now live as they did a setup & changed nuts & Pegs to Tusq) So maybe not in all cases does he step in..but when he does, he does not blow smoke he seems honest and true to his word, as for the guitars...actually a bit nicer than the Epiphone counterpart. and if you think that I am BS than look ME up on Yahoo under Captainronni as I have a sailboat project am working on these days..Regardless of what happened in the business there is always 2 sides. and as far as John is concerned ..He is an honest man with a good product whos name he cares about. Did anyone ever try to speak with Mr. Guitar Center or Mr Epiphone?..especially when you see how many bridges go bad on a Masterbilt guitar?..hmmm?
