Fender Yngwie Malmsteen Strat Review

Fender Yngwie Malmsteen strat Review

The price alone should give you an indication of the kind of guitar we're dealing with here. Nothing like those 400 dollar Fenders. Last time I checked, this signature model electric guitar was being sold for $1,399.99 at a leading online musical instruments seller. In terms of fretboard, there are quite a few options available. These include candy apple maple, candy apple rosewood, sonic blue maple, sonic blue rosewood, vintage white maple, and vintage white rosewood fretboards.

What features does the Fender Yngwie Malmsteen strat electric guitar come with? Features include an alder body, scalloped fretboard, brass nut, maple neck, Malmsteen-specified neck shape, late '60s large headstock, 2 DiMarzio YJM pickups, and a DiMarzio HS-3.

Other features of this Fender electric guitar include mint-green pickguard, medium-jumbo frets, synchronized tremolo, Schaller vintage F machine heads, as well as aged plastic parts.

This is one of the most unique stock guitars you can buy nowadays. What really stands out is the scalloped neck which Yngwie has been known to use on all of his guitars. I like the fact that the flat wooden surface between the neck has been filed down. This means that your fingers won't actually touch anything while playing the guitar, except for the strings and the frets.

Such a scalloped fretboard may be hard to get used to. You would need lots of discipline, and relaxed playing to adapt to it. If you think you've got what it takes, by all means go for it. On the other hand, I have read some reviews where a few guitarists stated that they didn't have any trouble with the scalloped fretboard. One reviewer was able to play just as fast and accurately within ten minutes of picking up the Fender Yngwie Malmsteen strat electric guitar.

The scalloped neck has a lot of advantages. It makes bends easier and you have more control over vibrato. There is also less tension in the fretting hand, since you don't need to apply much pressure to fret each note.
When you have mastered the scalloped neck, you may find hammer-ons, sweep-picked arpeggios, and pull-offs easier. At the end of the day it all depends on the player.

Overall, a great guitar with wonderful tone and playability. What makes this guitar stand out are its scalloped fretboard, Dimarzio YJM pickups, Dimarzio HS-3, alder body, vintage tremelo, and brass nut. Pay attention to these when doing your research on the Fender Yngwie Malmsteen strat.
