Finger positions on a fretless bass?

I'm a 30+ year fretted bass player and am curious as to what the fingering position is on a fretless (lined) bass. Do I play where the fret marks are? Or do I play between the marks (like a fretted bass)? I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere!
