guitar buzzing?

by JOHN POTTER
(MN)

I just bought a new fender standard telecaster. I love the way it plays and the beautiful airy tone that I get out of it, however, there is one annoying problem. When the volume is pegged on it, (through either pup) I get a very noticeable and annoying buzz/hum that only gets worse when I run through my distortion or overdrive pedals. Its not the cable or amp because my Les Paul studio doesn't buzz like this through the same setup. I can minimize the noise when I turn down the volume on the tele, but then I lose sufficient tone. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? HOW DO I GET RID OF THE BUZZ?

the nature of a tele
by: Anonymous

Telecaster pups are notorious for the hum. It is really the nature of the single coil vs. the humbucker. You are probably used to playing through your Les Paul's humbuckers. Humbucker really means HUMBUCKER. You could look into replacing the single coils with fender noiseless pups or even something like a kinman. (a little pricy)
