Ibanez SR500 Review
Here's my review of the Ibanez SR500 Soundgear 4-string bass. You can buy this bass guitar online for about 550 bucks. Whether you need a bass for the home, stage, or studio, the Ibanez SR 500 is worth checking out. Especially when you need one that is not too expensive.
So what are the features of the instrument? Well it comes with a thin, fast, 5-piece SR4 neck crafted of wenge and bubinga. The body is made of sculpted mahogany and it comes with a rosewood fretboard with 24 medium frets and oval abalone markers. How about the pickups?
Well there's a Bartolini MK1-4 neck pickup as well as a Bartolini MK1-4 bridge pickup. The Ibanez SR500 comes with chrome hardware with black pickups, Bartonini MK1 active 3-band EQ, and Accu-Cast B20 bridge.
For the price, this Ibanez Soundgear bass is incredibly well-crafted and equipped. I really like the slim, fast neck it comes with. And I like the fact that I can change strings quickly and easily, thanks to the Accu-Cast B20 bridge. It also offers single-screw saddle, height adjustment and stability.
The Ibanez SR500 is a great bass. I like it very much. It's a good second bass but can also be used as a primary bass. It has a tone that is out of this world, thanks to the Bartolini pickups. I guess the downside is having to change batteries, but since it only takes about two minutes to do so, it's probably no big deal. The bass has everything you need. I like the 3-Band EQ with pickup balancer.
In terms of its finish, there's room for improvement. If you've got the money and value finish highly, then by all means spend the money for a more expensive Soundgear. They have a better finish. But other than that the Ibanez SR 500 is just as good as the more expensive models. My suggestion would be to buy this cheaper Soundgear and perhaps add a coat or two of poly or laquer to it if you like. This would protect the finish and add some shine to it.
Before you spend thousands on a bass, check this one out. You may save a few hundred dollars in the process. It's very good for the price. A keeper.
