Ibanez SR900 Review

Ibanez SR900 Review

This is where I review the Ibanez SR900 Soundgear 4-string bass. Last time I checked it was being sold for about 800 bucks at a leading online musical instrument retailer. While this bass has many similar features to cheaper Soundgear basses like the SR500 for example, it has many significant improvements over such models. It beats the cheaper models particular in neck-thru construction, maple body, its more durable finish, and through-body stringing. So if you're really on a budget buy the cheaper models, but if you've got extra and want something better, investing in an Ibanez SR900 bass is a very good idea.

Ibanez SR900 Soundgear 4-string bassWhether at home, in the studio, at practice, or on stage, the Ibanez SR 900 4-string bass won't disappoint. It comes with so many nice features. These include an SR4 thru-body neck, figured maple body, 5-piece maple and bubinga neck construction, Accu-Cast B20 bridge, as well as rosewood fretboard with 24 medium frets and oval abalone markers. How about the pickups? Well there's a Bartolini MK1-4 neck pickup and a Bartolini MK1-4 bridge pickup. It has black pickups and black chrome hardware. This Ibanez Soundgear bass also includes a Bartonini MK1 active 3-band equalizer.

Looking for a bass that is very playable? This is it. I played this bass at a local store and was absolutely amazed. It's one of the most playable basses I've come across. I like the way all the frets are so accessible, unlike many other basses I've played. The Ibanez SR900 Soundgear bass has a fast neck and the action is out of this world. I compared it to basses like the Deluxe Precision bass and the fretless Fender jazz bass and I found that it played better than them. Playability to the max.

My only disappointment was with the various colors that were available. I wasn't too impressed with all the goofy patterns. Would have preferred plain old black. But I understand that this may not be a big issue for some.

And how about its sound? Well with Bartolini electronics what do you expect?

You get lots of great tones suitable for all styles of music, thanks to the Bartolini pickups and preamp. It has incredible sustain. Whether you want clear, full sound, or dirty sound, the Ibanez SR 900 bass will deliver.

All together, a great bass for the price.
