Microphonic Feedback

by B.J.
(USA)

When using an pickup with a nickel cover and alnico 2 magnets, that is not wax potted, will microphonic feedback increase as I turn up the pregain to the upper levels? I use a Peavey Classic 30 Amp and I generally set a high treble, very low mid, and mid to upper bass eq. I don't like to use the clean channel but rather the dirty side, pregain set to 85-100% and post gain set low and adjusted up as I need more volume. I am considering a pup swap in a Gibson Flying V using a set of unpotted pups, Seymour Duncan Seth Lover Models with 4 conductor, and didn't know if this would be a big problem with microphonic feedback. Just another try at getting that "EARLY ERA PAF" sound. Or would I just be better off getting a set of vintage style pups that is potted? I have never owned or played a set of pups that was not potted and didn't know what to expect.
