New first electric guitar

(POTEAU, OKLAHOMA)

I WANT TO BUY MY 1ST GUITAR,ELECTRIC,AND EQUIP, I KNOW YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, AND UNDERSTAND BUYING USED QUALITY IS BETTER THAN NEW CHEAP FOR THE SAME PRICE. THAT BEING SAID WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND. MY STATS: MALE AGE 48 JUST ABOUT RETIRED, I HAVE SMALL HANDS AND HAVE SOME PROBLEM REACHING SOME NOTES. I LIKE ROCK,BUT ALSO LIKE THE BLUES SOUND TOO, THIS IS SOMETHING I HAVE WANTED TO DO ALL MY LIFE, I HAVE JUST STARTED LESSIONS AND BUT CAN'T PRACTICE WITHOUT A GUITAR, MY INSTRUCTOR, A FRIEND (NOT PAID) SAYS I HAVE PICKED THING UP VERY QUICKLY COMPARED TO OTHERS HE HAS TAUGHT IN THE PAST. I WOUND LIKE TO SPEND AROUND $1000 IF POSSIBLE. WHAT ABOUT SOME OF THE START UP KITS.

Go to a Guitar Center and check out an Epiphone Les Paul...you'll be amazed. But dont take my word for it...check out any guitar review site or forum and you'll find almost nothing but praise about these guitars. They run between 4 and 5 hundred..you can also get a GREAT Vox (AD30VT) for under 250 bucks...total after tax, is under your thousand dollar price. PS, if you dont like the Epi..play all the others..just go, fall in love and take one home. You'll be glad you did.

If you have $1000, go buy an ESP LTD ec-1000. You can find them for around $800. Best guitar you'll ever own, hands down. Thin neck is good for small hands. Then buy a good little combo amp. Line 6 makes some good ones. It's not what your playing though, it's how you play it. Van Halen sounds like Van Halen no matter what he's playing on and through. But the EC-1000 will get you a lot of sweet tones, has a slimmer neck than say a Les Paul, great pickups, holds it's value, and is a good investment. Bigger amps come with the need to get louder in clubs if you start gigging so don't invest in a crazy half stack in the begining. Guitar starter kits suck, no joke. It's easier to learn on a good guitar versus a cheap one. And they're nice looking. Look this guitar up on internetguitars.com. They're the cheapest I've found and you get a free $120 hard case with it.
