Odyssey -Carved Top Series 100 Guitar

by DP
(British Columbia)

Odyssey Guitars was a small hands on guitar manufacturer that existed in Vancouver, BC, Canada, from the mid 70's to the early 80's (about 77-82). In this span they created extremely high quality and unique instruments. This is a '77 Carved Top Series 100, the top model for that year, their first year of production.
All custom brass hardware (bridge, nut, tailpiece, electronics cover, volume/tone controls), custom DiMarzio dual humbuckers, mahogany and maple laminate neck with mahogany wings and a birdseye maple cap.

Just bought an odyssey guitar finally!!!!!!!!
by: Anonymous

I just bought an Odyssey guitar after looking constantly for a year! I had search emails delivered every day from Ebay and religously searched Craiglist, buy and sell ,pawn shops, guitar shops etc etc. Finally one turned up on Ebay I nearly went into cardiac arrest!Turns out the person who owns it lives in BC as well and shares my enthusiasim about Canadian guitars .He ended the auction for me and came down to the lower mainland with the guitar where we met and had a great conversation about these and other vintage guitars.I am now the proud oner of a near near mint Odyssey guitar and it is stunning!I've just spent the last 2 hours or so playing it,it's fantastic plays like a dream! These are so damn hard to find but I never gave up and got lucky to find this gem in the super condition it is in.They made quite a few models from 1977 to 82 including an awesome semi acoustic so beautiful looking.I know your out there somewhere and I'm coming for you so stop hiding!!lol. If you are looking for one of these great pieces of art don't give up, just plod on like I did.It will be well worth the wait when you finally get your hands on one and plug it in,you'll see.

Odyssey
by: rwil

Hi there,
I'm having one exactly like the picture.
If someone is interesting to make me an offer, I could be interested to sell it. The guitar was made in 79 and everything is original but the bridge pickup (Seymour), but I think I'm still having the original one somewhere .
I'm mainly a classical guitar maker here in Montreal since 30 years, so I think that i can be trusted! HaHa!

more info please
by: jdj

Only recently discovered these incredible instruments. Not very much info out there on them.

DP - How many and what models do you have? Can you post more pictures?

Alberta Kydd - Any pictures of yours?

Anony - Congratulations on your find. What year/model is it?

Rene - Exquisite piece from the pictures. Where did you get it ? If you still have it, I'd love to grab it. Don't know what a reasonable offer would be.

Anony Flying V - An original owner - amazing. Pictures please.

I'm in the Denver,CO area and found a guy here who has one. Going to see it today and bringing my camera. Neither one of us know how to determine what a fair market price might be?
Any of you guys care to divulge what you've paid for yours? Simply asking as a matter of reference.
Any info would be helpful.

He did share w/ me some history he got from Ken Lindemere, one of the original company owners. I can pass that along if anyone's interested.

My email: animandoladude@comcast.net

Never knew these existed - they're awesome !!!

Hi everyone, putting a price on these is difficult to say the least. When I found mine the owner wanted $800.00 Canadian for it. Like I have posted it was and is in near mint shape, virtually unplayed by the look of it. I didn't haggle I gave him the $800.00 gladly.I'm still trying to pin down the actual model number,I have looked though the catalogs at vintageaxe.com and didn't see the exact duplicate but close on a couple of models. It is solid mahogany with an ebony fretboard, brass hardware and of course the oddysey brass logo on the headstock.I think they are undervalued at this time.If the same quality had the Fender or Gibson marquee they would be selling for 5 times or more the price. After searching I've discovered a few more than excellent Canadian guitar makers out there.I have since aquired a JK Lado Custom from 1978 another awesome guitar/maker.Then I found a guitar designed by Alex Lifeson of Rush fame and partnered with Godin and Larivee came up with the Signature guitar Co.I have a Signature "Oddysey" 6 string from that collabaration. Signature guitars are quite rare as well as they were only in production for 2 years I believe. The quality on these is amazing as well do check them out on Google.I am going to post pic's of all three soon so you can get a good look at these Canuck beauties.Dave

by: Anonymous

hi mine has coil taps on it too....
theres a three way and also three other switches down by ht tone controld.....
it looks like the picture posted, except for the coil tap switches four of em....
i think it is every bit as good and playable as my les paul deluxe 79 model which is too heavey for me to play anymore....
I have been playing a gibson heritahe les paul for ease of my shoulder and the odessy is a grade or two better than the heritage for sure....as well as having a fantastic voice range////

Looking for Odyssey Hawk
by: Skid

I owned a 1978 Odyssey Hawk - the lower end model but a fantastic guitar. Unfortunately it was stolen in the mid-90's when I lived in Vancouver. I would love to get this guitar back and have never given up hope. At the time it was stolen, I had an EMG Select single coil in the neck position and an EMG Select humbucker in the bridge. I know the serial number and could identify the guitar. If anyone knows anything about the whereabouts of this guitar I would love to hear about it. I can be contacted at skidguitarist(at) googlemail.com

Odyssey for sale
by: Anonymous

Hey guys

I came to own an odyssey hawk about a year ago... I believe it is a 1979 and it is in mint condition - the only observable wear on it is that many of the fret marker dots on the top of the neck have been worn off.

My wife and I just had a daughter and are looking to free up some space and money in our home, so regrettably I have to see about selling it.

I am located in edmonton, alberta, but will be willing to ship it to someone interested in it.

I can be contacted at mccarthyfamily2008@hotmail.com

thanks,
Ian

Odyssey custom 'v'
by: Anonymous

I own (since new in 1980) an odyssey custom 200? flying V. It has been a great guitar and I have used in semi-regularly in a couple of bands over the years. I was only 16 when I 'won' it in a competition, and would love to learn more about it. If anyone has any additional information about it (and what its worth?), I would love to hear it. Thanks in advance.

My uncles guitars
by: Rob

Hey everyone, nice to see all the great hype over my late uncles work.:) Yes, uncle. I managed to get one of his first models and cherish it dearly. If anyone wants any information on him, I'd be happy to answer. He was a special person in our family and was incredibly talented.

Attila Balogh
by: Anonymous

Greetings Rob,
I own 3 of Attila's Odyssey neck thru 6 string guitars ,they are all different and all amazing to play .The craftsmanship on these is right up there with the best luthiers in the world in my opinion.
My question to you would be ,do you have any photos of Attila? I've never seen any pic's of him looking through the web or while researching the guitars. If you had any of him I would really appreciate if you would send one and I will copy it and put it up where my guitars are so people will know who made these beauties.
It was very nice to read your comments Rob,thank you for commenting. David Barber: daddyotoys@telus.net

Want to buy NEW
by: Jim Mullen

I finally bought my first Odyssey Guitar from last fall. It's a 300 and was in pretty tough shape. Fortunately I have the skills to rebuilt it, and make improvements that the boys missed the first time around (a couple over over zealous moments on the belt sander!!) With in a couple of more months this is going to be a perfect gem of a guitar and I will post pictures then.

I looking to but another Odyssey, and will pay fair price. So, I put it out there, any one want to sell there guitar? Think about it. Contact me at: jim@cariboubrewmasters.com

Cheers

Jim
