Selecting a guitar for a 15 year old

My 15 year old son wants an electric guitar. He already plays the clarinets and bass clarinet and has started to self teach on an acoustic guitar. He will also start taking lessons next week. Can you recommend an electric guitar that would be be suitable even as he progresses?

I would recommend Squire Strat Pack if you need an entire set or a Fender Stratocaster if you are going to use it long term. Another good choice would be an Epiphone Les Paul or a Gibson Les Paul.
