Small Bass Guitar Picks

Some people need a small bass guitar because they are simply small people! Whether these folks are young children wanting to learn to play the bass, or maybe just smaller women, there are many choices of bass guitar on the market that are smaller than average and yet deliver a big sound. Some are designed specifically for young people, like the cute Daisy Rock basses. Others are just made small.

One such bass guitar is the Ashbory. This bass was produced by Guild for a few years in the late 1980's and has recently been reissued by DeArmond. The new ones are available in black, frost red metallic, and moon blue. These basses have an 18 inch neck with silicone rubber strings. They are so small and plastic looking that they can easily be mistaken for toys. They also carry a low price tag of under $250.

Daisy Rock makes a small bass guitar in several designs that appeal to young girls. For instance, you can get a bass guitar that looks like a heart, a butterfly, or a flower. They are real musical instruments, however, and can get a young girl off on the right foot as she dreams of becoming a musician.

Squier makes a small bass guitar known as the Bronco bass. It has a narrow 30 inch neck that will fit smaller hands and arms well. It carries a suggested retail price of about $250 and is thought to be a good choice for a beginner on the bass. Unlike larger basses, however, the Bronco is made of a soft wood that has a tendency to get dings and dents in it.

For a higher quality bass, check out the Fender Mustang. This is a remake of the classic instrument from 1964. It has a body made of hard alder wood but has the small 30 inch scale length. The Mustang retails for around $800.
