Spector bass guitars - favorites

Spector bass guitars are beautifully designed instruments favored by many professional musicians. The company is named after Stuart Spector, who became a luthier (artisan who creates guitars) in the mid 1970's. The company was purchased by the old Kramer guitar company, but Stuart, AKA "Thumbslinger," still builds bass guitars like the design he created in 1981.

Spector bass guitars are categorized into several groups. The U.S. Neck-Through series are handmade in Saugerties, NY. These are called NS basses because they were designed by Ned Steinberger, another accomplished luthier. The finishes on the NS basses come in stunning custom colors, such as bright green, red, blue, and other combinations, with the gorgeous woodgrains shining through. Prices start at $4999.

The U.S. Bolt-On Series feature beautiful wood grains with a flawless finish. Prices range from $2699 and up. Scale size ranges from 34 to 35 inches, and they can have 4, 5, or 6 strings. They are also hand crafted in New York state, and feature a deep inset neck.

Spector bass guitars also provide a professional series that offers many of the great features of the more expensive Spectors but at a more affordable price. The Legend 4 Classic costs $699, with an added $100 on the price for an extra string. The body is basswood with a choice of colorful wood finishes, and the neck is bolt on.

The Legend Mike Kroeger Nickelback signature model has 5 strings, a set neck, a body of maple, a 35 inch scale, and a price of $1099. It comes in quilted maple, figured bubinga, or matte black with MK signature inlays. The Rex Brown models start at $1199 and are built with neck-through design and a 34 to 35 inch scale, depending on whether you buy the four string or the five string model.
