The best affordable electric guitar?

Hi,
I'm a bit stuck at the moment. Trying to choose a good guitar for my boyfriend. It will be his first guitar but I want it to be something really good (hes been practising on a Fender Strat) and one that he can keep (I looked at Squiers but have read too many negative reviews). Can you recommend a suitable guitar please? I don't have a lot of money so will be getting a second-hand one anyway!

Firstly, it's hard to recommend a suitable electric guitar without knowing exactly how much you're willing to spend.

Secondly, you will always come across negative reviews for cheaper guitars. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy one. A lower end model will never be as good as a higher priced electric guitar since it costs so much less. Reviewers often bash these guitars forgetting that they cost less for a reason.

Keep in mind that a guitar can be upgraded. Later on, you can change strings, pickups, and so on.

When it comes to electric guitars and other instruments, generally, the more you spend the better it gets.
