Tuning of an Electric guitar

by Rowland
(France)

I have a new electric guitar, I have just tuned it using an electronic tuner, when playing the strings open they sound just fine, but when I play a chord or just play a note on the G sting the G string sounds out of tune, I have used the tuner on my acoustic guitar with no problems, advice welcome.

don't fret it easy fix....

Sounds to me like your guitar wasn't set up properly at the factory or dealer your intonation is wacked, bring it back to were you got it & tell them to set it up properly, no guitar should leave a music store without being setup thats why kids that get these guitars get discourged & just sell them because they think its them that sounds sour, to bad some of these stores are just in it for the money instead of customer satisfaction, but they wont last long if thats how they operate or ill teach you how to do it yourself its not as hard as it seems...the best way is using harmonics which means if you dont already know is lightly touching the string on a fret & getting that "Chime" Sound. ok here goes... you will need an electronic tuner,& a small screw driver or allen wrench etc. First put pickup on the neck position ,Volume & tone must be Maxed, 1.Play Harmonic at 12th fret 2.Play the note at the 12th fret, they need to match ,if note is flat the string is to long, if the note is sharp, the string is to short, adjust the saddle clockwise lengthens the string & Counterclockwise Shortens the string, when the open 12th harmonic and the fretted octave are the same match your intonation is on...Congrats!!hope this helps!
